From Bake And Sew, this pyramid doorstop for my Sister S’s birthday on Saturday.
She asked me to buy her one ($30), and when I said “Hang on, surely they must be easy to make, let me Google it and find you a tutorial,” she said, “Oh. Ok. Why don’t you make me one?”
Duh. Could’ve seen that one coming. She posted the fabric so I could get it done in time. A beautiful Japanese fabric, which I promptly interfaced with a bit of cheapo Vilene … you know… Vilene, Vilene, Vilene Vilene, I’m begging of you please don’t take my man.
I cut da four triangle sides and base, I iron on da interfacing, sew my seams. When you attach the base to three of the triangles, it’s worth marking the pivot point, so you stand half a chance of a nice, even shape, with the points all perky, like.
Mine bulged in the wrong places, but that was ok, because I was using the Linda Evangelista of fabrics, so a little imperfection did not detract from its beauty.
The bit where you stuff it with rice is weird. I guess I’m just very attached to rice as a foodstuff. I got to the cupboard door and asked myself, do I use Arborio? Then I thought I should get a life, and grabbed the canister of plain old white long grain.

It was surprisingly easy and fast – even the hand sewing, which I usually loathe, of the final triangle to the base.
It’s a great project for using small stash leftovers. Though I might amend the template to make it bigger by a good 5 square cm.
I’m thinkin, since I have flunked out of the trivia night committee at Piaf’s creche, I could zip through a few of these as a fundraiser. They’re Tootin’ charmin’!

Hmmmm. Sand might be a better – and cheaper – alternative!
