  1. Hello!

Thanks for the comment. Thought I’d come and reply to it here instead of leaving a comment in er… my own comments, in case you might not see it there.

No, there are no seam allowances in that pattern, or any of my garment patterns. I never include seam allowances because they are distracting to me personally, and then you have to measure and draw in the actual sewing line after. I just cut around the pattern on the fabric with a “border” which is the seam allowance. It is different for different parts of the garment. Usually it is about 3/8″ if you know the pattern will fit well. Otherwise, give a bigger seam allowance (like 1″) in the sides of the pattern so if the fit is tight, you can let it out a little. I usually give a hem (the bottom) allowance of about 1.5 – 2′, depending on how sure I am of the length of the dress on the wearer. Then, depending on whether I am going to fold it up and hand-hem or serge and machine-hem, I might cut it down differently. Or, if it takes me that long to finally sew up the dress that the wearer (like my eldest daughter) has a growth spurt and shoots up 2″!
